This full-day course offers a comprehensive introduction to laboratory biosecurity, focusing on the practical implementation of biosecurity policies, guidelines, and risk assessments. Participants will explore the importance of robust biosecurity measures for global health, and learn to identify and address risks across the eight pillars of biosecurity: leadership and governance, risk assessment, personnel reliability, physical security, information security, material control and accountability, transport security, and emergency response.

Through interactive case studies, the course will highlight key topics such as risk assessment, dual-use research, and the use of gap analysis tools to evaluate and strengthen biosecurity frameworks. Practical solutions and mitigation strategies will be discussed, with examples of documentation, policy development, and assignment of responsibilities. 

Real-world examplesincluding recent policy development for CEPIwill be shared to illustrate current issues and solutions from a global perspective. Participants are encouraged to contribute their own experiences, especially those relevant to the European context, to foster collaborative learning and discussion.
